International Trainee Programme: Business, Strategy and Organizational Development

Are you looking to start your career as a trainee in a company where you’ll be surrounded by and learn from smart people who truly care about their work positively impacting the green energy transition? 

Statkraft’s International Trainee Programme is a great introduction into working life. You will spend 16 months learning and developing yourself alongside other graduates, and kick start your career in renewables. The programme consists of three job rotations across the company, of which at least one will be abroad. As a trainee, you will participate in various professional development courses and gatherings to acquire new skills and share experiences. You will also become a part of our brand-new CEO-led Future Board – an advisory board made up of trainees and young professionals at Statkraft who will advise and challenge our CEO on key issues and topics. For the first time ever, young professionals get a seat at the table, and will help shape our future here at Statkraft.

Trainee in Corporate Strategy and Analysis
Location: Oslo.  

The Corporate Strategy & Analysis department is responsible for Statkraft’s long term market analysis, on a global level and across all markets. We are also responsible for developing the strategy for Statkraft group. Together with top management and business leaders, we are a key driving force for shaping Statkraft’s future development. Being one of our critical business enabler functions, we are the backbone to everything we do at Statkraft, providing seamless and value-adding work to the organisation, and playing an important role in our mission towards a carbon free future. The unit consists of 30 people across three departments working closely with the business areas in Statkraft to drive analysis and strategy work.  

As a trainee in the Corporate strategy and analysis unit, you’ll work every day with big questions like: How will the world respond to the climate challenge and how will that impact the energy markets? How will politics in each of our geographies influence the power markets and translate into opportunities for a renewable energy company like Statkraft? What is the right strategy for Statkraft and for our business areas? 


Trainee in Business Development, European Wind and Solar. 
Location: London or Oslo. 

The business area European Wind and Solar (“E”) is responsible for developing, acquiring, owning and operating renewable assets in selected markets in Europe. The business area is also responsible for delivering shared services such as Project Delivery, Project Management Office, and Procurement and for creating new, profitable business initiatives within electrification, decarbonization and serve new power demand. The newly established Organisational Development unit works to drive development and continuous improvement of our operations, including process improvements and digitalization initiatives. 

As a trainee in Organisational Development, you will be involved in projects such as:  

  • Enhancing our digitalization capabilities based on review of current state, available technology and best practice among market peers 

  • Drive continuous improvement of key business processes 

  • Modelling organizational resource requirements across the long-term business plan 

  • Reviewing our matrix of reporting lines across business units and countries to help optimize how we collaborate 


Trainee as Business developer, IT. 
Location: Oslo. 

As Business IT Developer, you are part of the corporate information technology (IT) service provider, and work as an internal consultant in the interface between IT and other business areas in Statkraft. You will: 

  • Utilize your innovative thinking, business understanding and people skills in order to improve processes, find good digital solutions and optimize the business for the future 

  • Utilize your ability to put unstructured information into context and present stories that are easy to follow and understand 

  • Work closely with business areas and operating units for Wind, Solar and Hydropower, that develop, build and operate green energy assets worldwide,  

  • Follow an idea from inception to final solution, in cooperation with the power producing business areas and IT  

  • Work in a great team of experienced Business IT Developers, drawing on the expertise of 220 great IT colleagues 


About you: 

We look for trainees in business, strategy or organizational development with the essential skills to future-proof our business and renewable energy solutions. This includes:  

  • Master’s degree in engineering, industrial economics, business administration, science, technology or similar with good academic results 

  • Interest in the renewable energy industry  

  • Good quantitative and qualitative problem-solving skills combined with sound judgement  

  • Self-driven, business oriented and a positive team player with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Understanding of possibilities enables by digitalization 

  • Self-driven, resilient and can drive projects 

  • Competence in standard software including MS Office highly desirable 

  • Interest in change and project management 

  • Fluency in English language, proficiency in another main European language would be an advantage
